Anti-Burglary Campaign in Barnet

“Be Safe” Anti-Burglary Campaign from Metropolitan Police: It was piloted in October 2016 focusing on residential burglary in selected hotspot boroughs and has since developed to include mobile phone theft and scooter theft across London. We have just received news of the Metropolitan Police’s new initiative to fight burglaries called the “Be Safe” campaign, from the new Borough Commander Det Ch Supt Simon Rose.

Attached is a crime prevention sheet they have produced which will be given out to victims of burglaries and we think it gives some really good advice.  As part of this campaign, they are also offering local officers to visit residents or groups and go through this advice.  Apparently, they don’t do this very often and Commander Rose strongly recommends everyone takes up this offer.  They also state that areas that they are keen to start with are the ones that historically have seen the highest burglary rates over the last three years, namely Childs Hill, Garden Suburb and Golders Green.

Be Safe Approach

Research commissioned by the MPS showed that most people believe they have a good awareness of basic crime prevention, but these are not always carried out for a variety of reasons.

Be Safe aims to support Londoners in adopting long-term crime-preventive behaviours by looking at the reasons behind why certain actions are not taken and how this might be overcome.

In addition to police communications, Be Safe looks to harness the power of partners and businesses who can help to support by providing key crime prevention advice and products, making it easier for the public to take these actions.
