Keep Your Property Safe

Life becomes so hectic during the Christmas period that we often forget the dangers that are often right in front of us. Even within our own neighbourhoods.

The tree has been decorated, the table is set, and the gifts are wrapped. You’re looking forward to Christmas – but bear in mind – thieves are eagerly anticipating it too.

Break-ins rise by over 20% during the winter months. With the seasons changing and the nights drawing in, Third Eye Installation Systems want to make sure that your home or business doesn’t become a part of the Christmas burglaries statistic.

Here’s what you can do in the near future to deter burglars and break-ins:

Find a neighbour you trust

Make sure that you inform a neighbour or a person nearby that you can trust when you will be away from your home for a long period of time – even if it’s a Christmas shopping trip for the day. That way, you can feel comforted knowing that a person close-by is keeping an eye out and looking after your property. Alternatively, we can install your property with its own security system that you can monitor and track at your disposal whilst you’re away.

Christmas Burglaries

Keep your plans to yourself

If you’re planning to travel during Christmas, be sure to keep your travel plans off of your social media networks. Never post where you’re going, when you’re leaving, or when you’ll be back from your travels.

Posting this kind of information can be highly dangerous in regular incidences – especially if your account is public. Publicly oversharing can often lead to burglaries, theft, and violence, so it’s vital that you don’t let this knowledge potentially fall into the wrong person’s hands.

Keep Christmas gifts out of sight

It’s important to look after your property, but also all of its contents. Avoid leaving presents under the tree until the night before or the morning of Christmas Day. This way, burglars will no longer be tempted by the sight of valuables that can easily be viewed from the street. Equally, encourage your delivery couriers to leave your long-awaited packages in a safe, out-of-the-way space if possible. Don’t leave notes for your courier either saying “I’ll be back in 5 minutes” as that is very much an invitation for opportunist burglars passing by to strike.

If Father Christmas has brought you a bike this year, make sure that you get it registered online to protect your bike from theft at www.bikeregister.com

Finally, keep your cash in the bank. Never keep large amounts of cash at home. It can be tempting to keep cash around, especially if giving cash gifts to relatives and grandchildren but limit the amount you keep. Consider fitting a safe at home, though ideally writing cheques instead of giving cash.

Make it look like you’re home

Present your house as if you are currently home. Leave the right number of lights on, including your television to make it appear that someone is present at your property. Ensure that your property is lit with indoor lighting or outdoor security lamps to deter any suspicious characters that may be

Double Lock

Before you leave the house, ensure that all of your external doors are double locked and secure. Research has found that 40% of UK residents don’t check whether their windows are locked before they leave the house, whilst 29% fail to even check their door. Don’t become a part of this statistic.

Letterbox Fishing

Letterbox Fishing is a common method used by burglars to retrieve your keys, wallet or valuables through your letterbox using a long, hooked rod – all without having to step foot inside. Leave all of these items further away from the front door or out of view in your hallway. There are also other precautions you can take during long periods away such as caging for your letterbox.

Equally, leaving your car or spare house keys near your letterbox, under a flowerpot, doormat, or any other feature near the front or back of your property is never a safe or secure option. Keep your valuables on you or stored away safely in your home at all times.

Keep Outbuildings Locked

Outbuildings garages, sheds, and any other spaces that store tools, cars, bikes, and mopeds. Installing appropriate lighting, motion sensor detection and alarms will also function as an effective deterrent, especially for any valuables that you may stow away in your garden.

Recycle and Destroy Receipts

Anyone who can gain access to your rubbish or recycling will also be able to see what you have been buying and spending. Shredding or destroying this information will keep your new valuables a secret – not just from nosy neighbours, but potential thieves too.

Want to beat burglaries?

Here are some of our services that we can offer:

Burglar Alarms

We typically install hard wired systems for business security but can also install a wireless or even a hybrid system. This being a mix of hardwired and wireless devices.

Whatever your requirements you can be assured of the highest quality systems from Third Eye Installation Systems. Our surveyors take time to discuss and understand your needs and concerns. They take into consideration any third-party influences which may impact on your needs. We don’t just sell boxes – we look to deliver the best solution possible for the customer and, of course, work within your budget.

CCTV Systems

We provide a range of CCTV HD (high definition) systems including the latest 4K technology for the home. This can be viewed on your phone, Ipad and/or PC. This allows you to view images from anywhere in the world.

Door Intercom Systems

Third Eye Installation Systems can supply a variety of different door intercom systems. These are including Comelit, Hikvison, BPT, BELL, Videx and, Fermax, to name but a few.

Typical installations are for an audio door intercom system. It provides a two-way conversation from your front door to a suitable location within your home. Ergo, no need to open your door to strangers. You can vet all callers from the safety of your kitchen. You can even do this at any other location in your home or even via your mobile phone!

Video Intercom

We can also install video intercom systems where the caller appears on the screen in the house. This is so you can be sure that the caller is who they claim to be. A further advancement on this type of door intercom is to connect the system to your mobile phone! The person at the front door will appear on your mobile phone using your home network connection. So, whether you are on the property or not, you can answer the door to anyone who knocks.

This includes a one-wall mounted handset and systems for multi-apartment or multiple entry points. Further alarm detection can also be added.

You can relax now, and no need to worry about Christmas Burglaries. From everyone at Third Eye, we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
